THE MANIFESTO

REBIRTH — A POLICY BLUEPRINT

This manifesto is the working document behind REBIRTH — eight policy pillars built around what KNUST students actually need: stronger academics, real welfare support, safer campuses and hostels, a cleaner environment, room to build businesses, better sports pathways, reliable internet, and a direct line between course reps and the SRC.

Every pillar below carries the same commitment — action over rhetoric, with clear ownership behind each promise.

A
Academic Resource & Assessment Policy
Study zones, laptop access, and fair examinations
+

We commit to enhancing the student learning environment by creating functional study spaces and providing necessary technological resources — while upholding academic integrity through stronger examination supervision.

  • Study Zones: Convert underutilised sitting areas into designated study zones, sheltered for year-round use and equipped with marker boards for collaborative work.
  • Laptop Access: Station laptop computers at all faculty libraries and hall study areas so every student has equitable access to digital research tools and the internet during operating hours.
  • Invigilator Assessment: Implement a formal examination supervisory system with mandatory invigilator assessments, ensuring every exam is conducted with integrity and fairness.
B
The SRC Cares — Student Support & Welfare
Financial relief, laptops, and food support for needy students
+

A framework for comprehensive student support — mitigating financial hardship, providing emergency relief, and meeting basic nutritional and technological needs, coordinated with the Vice Chancellor's Office and the Directorate of Student Affairs.

  • Sonsol Project Liaison: Strengthen the Vice Chancellor's Sonsol Project through added SRC support, targeting at least 50 additional laptops for needy students.
  • SRC Foundation — Emergency Relief: Immediate support for students affected by hostel fires, accidents, floods, or other disasters.
  • SRC Foundation — Tuition Support: Fund tuition fees for at least two students from each of the six Colleges every academic year.
  • Food Bank Initiative: Expand supply volume and streamline distribution for consistent nutritional support to less privileged students.
  • Final Year Project Incentives: Targeted relief for final-year project work, following a six-year rotation across Colleges for equitable distribution.
  • Oversight: The Foundation Board will be chaired by the Deputy Registrar of Welfare at the Directorate of Students' Affairs, managing the fund with transparency and accountability.
C
Academic Security & Safety Policy
Off-campus security, patrols, lighting, and awareness
+

We commit to protecting students and staff by enhancing security visibility, mobility, and communication — mitigating risks in high-density areas on and off campus, especially during exams.

  • Off-Campus Collaboration: Work with University Administration to increase police visibility in off-campus residential areas, with intensified surveillance during exam periods.
  • Security Mobility: Provide university security with at least two dedicated bicycles or motorbikes for swift response times and effective patrols.
  • Awareness Campaigns: Hall-to-hall engagements with Hall Presidents, off-campus outreach with local MPs, and bulk digital alerts with UITS and the University Relations Office.
  • Lighting Infrastructure: A dedicated fund for replacing damaged street lights, prioritising high-traffic off-campus routes and residential areas.
D
Sanitation & Environmental Stewardship
Clean campus, flood prevention, community responsibility
+

We commit to promoting environmental stewardship and physical well-being — keeping campus clean, reducing regional flood risk, and engaging students in national sanitation efforts.

  • Internal Maintenance: Lead periodic campus cleaning exercises that double as opportunities for physical activity and community engagement.
  • Flood Prevention: Coordinate clean-up exercises around Tech Junction and other high-risk drainage points to clear debris that contributes to local flooding.
  • Student Involvement: Actively involve the student body to build a sense of national responsibility toward sanitation.
E
Entrepreneurship & Innovation Hub
Incubation space, mentorship, funding, and IP protection
+

We commit to creating a supportive environment for student entrepreneurs — the resources, mentorship, and financial frameworks needed to turn ideas into viable businesses.

  • Innovation Hubs: Establish Incubation Centres with high-speed internet, meeting rooms, and basic office equipment.
  • Mentorship: Partner with local business leaders and alumni on business registration, financial management, and marketing.
  • TRACHTECH Competition: An annual competition offering seed funding from a dedicated SRC Innovation Fund, with external investors invited.
  • IP Protection: Innovations developed solely by a student using university resources remain that student's property, unless a separate shared-commercial agreement is made.
  • Student Spotlight: Use official SRC platforms to spotlight students with exceptional entrepreneurial skills.
  • Ownership: The Director of Innovation runs day-to-day operations and IP agreements; the SRC Financial Secretary manages the Innovation Fund; the University Relations Office promotes student startups externally.
F
Sports & Recreation Policy
A pathway to professional football and the Deans' Cup
+

We commit to building talent pathways for student-athletes and fostering cooperation between students and administration through competitive sports.

  • Kumasi Asante Kotoko Partnership: A formal pathway for university talent into the club's youth team, the Otumfuo Osei Tutu Team, with potential for national team selection.
  • The Deans' Cup: An annual interdisciplinary tournament honouring the Dean of Students and directorates for their cooperation with the student front.
  • Ownership: The SRC Sports Secretary coordinates the Deans' Cup and athlete rosters; the SRC President's office maintains the Kotoko partnership.
G
WiFi Extension & Proliferation
Internet access that follows students beyond the classroom
+

We commit to improving and extending WiFi coverage from campus to shuttles and nearby hostels, recognising that learning today happens far beyond the classroom.

  • Shuttle Extension: Work tirelessly toward extending WiFi service to university shuttles, so research, remote entrepreneurship, and everyday academic tools remain accessible on the move.
H
The People's SRC Policy (Wei De3 Y3De3 Mu)
Closing the communication gap between reps and leadership
+

A policy to eliminate the communication gap, increase transparency, and foster inclusivity within the student body — applying to all elected and appointed course reps, electoral commissioners, and the SRC.

  • The SRC Desk: A dedicated hotline and platform created exclusively for course reps to escalate urgent classroom grievances directly to SRC leadership.
